[The most frequent nursing diagnoses in an oncology admission unit]. / Diagnósticos de enfermagem mais freqüentes em uma unidade de internação de oncologia.

The aim of this paper was to survey the most frequent nursing diagnoses by means of the nursing history and medical procedure in order to help the care provided at the Oncology Nursing Service of Women Health Whole Care (Centro de Atenção Integral à Saúde da Mulher-CAISM). The five most common diagnoses were: risk for infection, risk for altered body temperature, risk for aspiration and colonic constipation of the exchanging pattern, and risk for activity intolerance of the moving pattern. Data collection was based on these patterns. Data predominantly involving social, cultural, psychological and spiritual aspects were hardly interpreted, because they were poorly registered or omitted.

Os autores relatam um caso de narcolepsia, no qual o paciente apos ser examinado sob o ponto de vista clinico, laboratorial, radiografico e eletroencefalografico, e submetido a tomografia computadorizada do encefalo. Discutem os aspectos clinicos, etiopatogenicos, hereditarios e terapeuticos da doenca, salientando a resposta favoravel ao uso da imipramina no controle dos sintomas

[Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis with partial remission]. / Panencefalite esclerosante subaguda com remissão parcial.

Subacute progressive panencephalitis is usually a progressive and fatal disease, being uncommon temporary or definitive remissions. A three years old boy, previously vaccinated against measles, developed trembling, progressive and severe mental deterioration, partial seizures and myoclonic jerks. The electroencephalogram showed periodic high amplitude waves concomitantly with myoclonic jerks and the cerebrospinal fluid revealed an increase of the gammaglobulin fraction (16,8), benjoin coloidal reaction shifted to the left and the antimeasles antibody titres were positive (complement fixation text 1:16; neutralization test 1:32). In spite of that, two months after the beginning of the illness the patient showed mental and motor improvement and similar modifications of the electroencephalographic aspects and now, eleven months later, is well, remaining only a slight motor and mental deficiency.

[Transverse myelopathy and systemic lupus erythematosus. Report of a case and review of the literature]. / Mielopatia transversa e lupus eritematoso sistêmico. Registro de um caso e revisão da literatura.

A case of transverse myelopathy in systemic lupus erythematosus with subacute onset and fatal course is reported. A review of the literature is done and clinical, laboratorial, therapeutics and pathological aspects are discussed. The authors call attention to the poor results of therapy and discuss the participation of immunological factors leaving to demyelination which are, aside the classical vascular involvement, the probable mechanisms in the neurological manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus. The authors believe that, in their case, such a demyelinative mechanism was responsible for the clinical picture, although a necroscopic examination was not allowed.
